Youmacon report 2009

Tue Nov 3, 2009, 2:37 PM
So, now that life is sufficiently calm again, it's time for my youmacon report! :D Very exciting, since this is the first con I've been to in the states. It takes place at the Hyatt regency - a very pretty hotel. 5 years since its beginning, it now has 5000 attendees (to put it in perspective, that's about a third of anime north).

American cons are sooo different. And they say Canadians are nice. Everyone I talked to at Youmacon was really friendly. No socially awkward people I could see, neither. The artists alley was... really weird. I'm proud to say that Canadians are, by far, better artists in general. xD Dealer's room had a bigger variety of stuff, too. There was a booth that sold JUST steampunk. Only one booth with a big selection of manga.

Cosplayers are generally better, too. There seems to be more extremes. The good ones we saw were really good. The bad ones didn't wear a wig cap and had loose threads hanging all over the place. <.<;

Ummm... and everyone was black or white. xD I SAW TWO - TWO - Asians the entire con. Maybe it's just a michigan thing, but yeah, that's how it was. There weren't that many Yaoi fanthings, either. Can't say I noticed until ~erisaniru told me, though.

Anyways, now for the breakdown. We ran into rush hour Friday after we left, so it took too long to get there. Therefore, we decided not to go to the con at all on Friday, and just went to my aunt's house to sleep. I DIDN'T WEAR JIGOKU SHOUJO EVEN THOUGH I EXHAUSTED MYSELF MAKING IT IN 5 DAYS.

"OTL

Saturday morning, we ate breakfast. Well, I ate, and ~erisaniru kind of picked at her food. Then she told us she felt sick, so we let her go and sleep some more. An hour later, all was good and we got to the con at 11am. Our fail of the day? We forgot to bring our .hack//G.U. refs so we couldn't enter any contests. =(

Notable cosplayers:
[link] - The Lelouch had a geass contact, which automatically made him SO MUCH WIN. He had the helmet, too, but he didn't put it on. They looked so adorable together! *A* (Erisa, why are you not a foot taller than me?)

[link] - Awesome Fai whose staff GLOWED. It looked so well-made. *_*

[link] - The Euphemia whose dress looks exactly like one I've seen on Chinese ebay. Like, down to the fabric choice. I didn't get to ask her about it, though.

[link] - We talked to this C.C.'s mom when she came to ask us for a photo. It turns out her mom had made both of those costumes. I WISH MY MOM HAD ENOUGH SKILLS TO MAKE COS FOR ME. But I digress.

[link] - Howl. She sat in front of us during the masquerade, and whirled her jacket crazily as a cheer. So OOC omg... xD;

[link] - The Taokaka we high-fived twice. She was so cute and tiny! <3 As you can probably tell by the angle in this picture. LOL.

[link] - This Tyki we met in the women's bathroom. =P Erisa watched her put her makeup on and had a delayed reaction when she asked for a photo as Tyki was leaving.

[link] - Wargreymon (?) It was a really... really bad quality costume. All cardboard and you could read the labels on the underside of their armor if you stood beside them. But whatever, it was epic.

[link] - The super sexy Alucard cosplayer. He looked SO perfect, but I got a bad picture. =( It looked better than the real Alucard, actually. xD Everytime he walked past us we were supertuned to his presence. LOL. He was super nice, too. If I ever see an Abel cosplayer so perfect, I think I would be such a creeper for them... u_u;

[link] - Jin rom Blazblue. He looked... scared... every time we saw him. xD On Sunday, too. He won the Saturday hall cosplay contest. =]

[link] - This Beat and Rhyme pair were so cute! :'D She was really peppy irl.

[link] - BEST. GIJINKA. EVER. My gosh, she looked adorable! <3 So, so cute.

[link] - This Basil always had the perfect face on. It was amazing. I would see him in the halls and he would have the face *_*

[link] - All the KHR at Youmacon Saturday. Apparently, there was a gathering Friday, but... so fewwwww.

[link] - This was the Vincent we talked to briefly at the con. His name was Ryan, and his friend said he used to always smile in pictures, and people would tell him: "You're out of character!" So he stopped xD; His claw+gun were omfg awesome.

[link] - Rachel Alucard and Jin 'fighting'. Blurry picture, oops. =(

[link] - Lord Darcia from Wolf's Rain. Omggggg he looked like he stepped out of the anime *-*

[link] - Astharoshe cosplayer. The only good TB cos from the con. I asked her if she was in the masquerade, and she said she had already won with that costume so she would feel bad entering. She kept hiding her face in photos, though, which was weird...

[link] - SUPERAWESOMECOOL Jasdebi cosplayers. :D They saw us and asked if we were going to ACen, and we said no. Apparently, they're cosplaying Endrance (<3) and Alkaid for that con, and they're missing a Haseo. :'( They also won a cosplay award.

We watched the masquerade after that, and it was.... god, people have such a bad sense of humor. 90% of the skits had dancing/singing in it. BADLY DONE. But people still went wild. The MC was SO funny, though! xD I wish AN had that.

[link] - Epic Rachel Alucard swishy dress.

[link] - All the kuroshitsuji at Youmacon.

[link] - The Code Geass shoot.

That's all. I regret not being able to see littlekuriboh, but oh well. The line for his panel was insanely long, anyways. The rest of the photos and the videos are in my photobucket here: [link]

DEFINITELY going to Youmacon next year, too.
